There are 14 routes classified as “Long Distance” in Amtrak’s network. These trains travel hundreds — sometimes thousands — of miles and connect major regions of the country. They are the classic, scenic routes that many people picture when they think of cross-country rail travel.
All routes can be viewed at https://www.amtrak.com/routes.html.
Seat Classes
Coach
Amtrak’s standard seating. Large, reclining seats with leg rests, tray tables, power outlets, no middle seats, and access to the Café Car. Comfortable for short and long trips at the lowest price.
First
Available on select routes like Acela. Includes wider seats, complimentary meals and drinks, and lounge access at major stations. Designed for a premium, quiet travel experience.
Business
An upgraded coach experience with extra legroom, priority boarding (on many routes), and sometimes complimentary beverages. A good middle ground between price and comfort.
Private Rooms
Available on long-distance trains. Roomettes and Bedrooms include beds, meals, shower access, and a dedicated car attendant. Ideal for overnight trips and maximum privacy.

At The Station
Each station is unique. Some are staffed, some aren’t. Some are grand, historic rail depots of a bygone era, others are a simple bench with no shelter from the elements.
To understand your specific stations, I recommend visiting Great American Stations https://www.greatamericanstations.com/stations/ as a one-stop-shop for your station’s details.
Some stations also include lounges for business class, first class (Acela), and sleeping car passengers. More information found at https://www.amtrak.com/station-lounges
